I think they need to do something to the parents like educate them about they health, exerise ,and get the whole family a membership to the gym and follow up on them.

Get the heck outta here!!!!!! The state is backlogged As it is with the kids already in foster care.  There are kids right now lost in the foster care system that we hear about missing, abused, etc. The state needs to put more energy into providing more recess and gym into the school day with healthier lunch alternatives. Better, affordable stores in urban areas and affordable preventative health care and stay in their lane !!!! ( jumping down off of my soapbox)

In most cases, fat kids have fat parents. It’s not the kids’ fault that they are obese – it’s the parents! The kids don’t go in the kitchen, turn on the stove and cook their own meals. They don’t hop in the car and go to McDonald’s and order a large Big Mac meal, cookies and an apple pie. And nobody from Burger King goes out into the community with guns, threatening people to eat their food. The parents cook huge unhealthy meals! The parents buy the fast food! At some point, the kitchen has to close! At some point, the tv has to be turned off, video games shut down and some exercise needs to be happening. You can’t tell me that a parent can’t give his or her child an apple or orange for a snack instead of a Snicker bar or bag of potato chips. Kids don’t have to pour ranch dressing over everything they eat! I believe that parents whose children are obese should be held accountable and suffer some form of consequence. And if that means losing their kids, oh well.

No way the state has alot of nerve. Seeing there is no recess or
no gym in the high schools unless the principle writes a long letter
and fill out forms coming out her but and then she or he may not
    get approved.

When we were in school gym was reguired everyday now it’s maybe
one year of less. Grammar schools may have one period a week per
class. Some schools even forbid the children from talking to each
other at lunch time less lone any playtime.

Who the hell they think they are and what they think they gone gain by putting them in foster care. They gone starve them and mistreat them and spend the money they gone get for them kids any ways so i think they need to regroup and come up with another plan. like obesity camp. cause that’s not gone cut it. i see a lot of obesity doctors nurses polices etc. what they gone do with them.”Stop Playing” they can start off by help this family and not brake them apart. you just can’t say its child neglect cause some kids are born fat so i guess you gone take that child to. They gone cause a war fucking with people kids. aka Big N Sexy

I put my parents through absolute HELL when they tried to control my eating habits. I would sneak and eat when ever possible. It’s not always the parents’ fault when the child is obsesed. As a child I would have been devasted to have been removed from my loving home because I was overweight and probably won’ t have done as wll as I have. It would have a been rejection by my parents in my view, I later had weight loss surgery as an adult and continue to do well. The state can supplement programs and make them mandatory, but leave the kid in the home!

No, I don’t believe you can always blame the parents for a child being Obese. The child can have a genetics problem that causes him or her to be obese. If you want to look at obesity as child abuse then what happens to anorexic and bullimic kids. should they be considered child abuse or neglect also? People need to stop being hypocritical because if the shoe or in this case obesity situation was being directed at them (as parents) they would not like it. Why have we become so judgemental as a society?

Sometime it’s not all about the parent letting their child eat fast food or it too much, sometime it could be a medical problem. No I don’t think a child should be taken from the parent just to slim them down, because it seems to me if that should that would only make that child miserable and therefore eat that much more. Everyone can’t be a perfect petite.

It think its a form of lazy parenting. Many parents like to give a child whatever they want just to shut them up. My son didnt know what junk food was until he started grammer school. His candy bar is a granola bar. His candy is fruit roll ups, apples, and pears. I know sometimes as moms we dont want to cook after a long day of work but instead of buying him McDonalds, we go to the soul food resturant and get good healthy foods instead. One plate would fill up the both of us, and it cost the same as fast food. I instilled these healthy eating habit in him at an early age and now that he is 9…that is what he chooses on his own. It would even be times that we are at a birthday party and he would turn down cake and just want the ice cream or turn them both down, when he does that I get parent who look at him like he is crazy and say WHAT YOU DONT WANT THIS…and I just tell them he isnt a junk food junky.

since they feel its neglect why they want help this parents still of talking about taking their child hell make a free obesity camp a program that will help this kids and foster care is not the answer cause look at 90% of the kids that in foster care some manage to become something and some end up dead or got hurt and abuse in foster care or molested how will the feel if they do decided to really do this and something happen to the child what they hell gone happen than. think about it before you do it there are alternative things they can do other than foster care

I’m very conflicted on this one. When you can barely afford your basic needs as it is, the cheapest commodity seems to be fast food. It’s a damn shame too. Not only that, but since the days of slavery, you have a history of “soul food” which were far from being the healthiest choices, being instilled as a cultural “tradition” which is why it’s still around and slowly killing people from the inside out. I was born and raised a latchkey kid by a single mother, so whatever was easiest and available was for dinner. Eventually growing up, I was gradually taking more and more responsibility for what I ate, and now, even though I’m still husky, I’m healthy because I’m very conscious and aware of what I put into my body. That makes me an exception though, because my brother is still suffering from obesity. These children definitely don’t know any better, but then again, neither do the parents at times. This is an incredibly more complex story than we are all giving it credit for.

What about these parents that get link card DON’T HAVE A JOB SET AT HOME ALL DAY and don’t cook a home made meal for their kids and then there’s the parents that SELL THEIR LINK for DRINK, WEED, ETC. that’s when we get the kids that are so SKINNY they look malnutrition. these parents NEED TO STEP UP AN BE “PARENTS”. I THANK GOD THAT I HAD “GOOD PARENTS” (R.I.P.)… I really feel for the KIDS of today..

I think its a dumb thought to even think about u r helpin a child by taking them from ppl they love.this will be another steppin stone to take parental rights from parents and besides( who will the thin kids hav to pick on)ery body can’t be fit lol

Funny, they want to step in if your child is overweight and remove them from the home but what are they doing to make sure healthy & nutritious foods are available in the neighborhoods? I live on the South Side of Chicago but I travel to the suburbs or the South Loop area to grocery shop. The stores I drive to have a wider variety and the foods look & taste fresh and are visually appealing.

How about we re-institute recess for the kids? Provide enough funding for the parks so they can offer more programs for kids to get involved in and not just basketball & football.

The state has enough on their plate trying to place the children already in foster care with responsible adults that are not just trying to get paid by the state or abuse children.

I think for the government to come in and take children just because they are over weight is such a ridiculous idea..such geniuses! Why is it that they always think they have the ultimate answer for every situation? Some people have medical problems which causes obesity, some people metabolism is slower than others and some people have Thyroid problems. But lets just say that’s not the case and yes the child is eating different foods that are “unhealthy”. Those very same foods and products were eaten and used by our parents and grandparents and so on and so forth and it is noted that they lived longer lives back then. The fact is that the goverment tries to regulate and control everything in our lives, and we let them, which is why we screw ourselves everytime! We allowed them to control how to discipline our children now parents get in trouble for spanking. Most people know the difference between spanking and beating and the ones who don’t are the ones where Childcare services should step in on and not the ones who’s trying to prevent their own child from becoming a statistic by either becoming a victim of crime or the offender). Secondly, the best thing they (the government) can do is stop being so greedy by restructuring the Food and Agriculture industry because when the government put their nose in something it always have to do with money. They’ve taken farms away from people who owned their own farms to make a living where people were able to buy cheap fruits and vegetables. Now the stores are stocked with fruits and veggies that have been sprayed and planted with enhancers just that they can look prettier and grow faster! What type of bullcrap is that?! Let’s not get on the meat. The animals are being injected with extra hormones and other things that is totally having an affect on our heath. Back then they didn’t do all of that to the animals, fruits and vegetables. Diabetes and a lot of other health problems come from what the government is doing to our foods today. So for them to try to come into someone elses house to clean up I suggest they clean up their own from scandals. How about dealing with the gun issues and the crime that’s being committed by people using these guns. In chicago, over this past weekend to today 20 children were injured or died because of gunfire.
